Women's Squash Adds Highly Ranked Subramaniam To Roster

ITHACA, N.Y. — David Palmer, the James Broadhead '57 Head Coach of Squash, announced today that Sivasangari Subramaniam will join the Cornell women's squash team for the remainder of the 2018-19 season. The highly decorated Subramaniam has climbed as high as 38th in the Professional Squash Association World Rankings earlier this year.

"We are all excited she chose Cornell over some of the other programs that have traditional been stronger," Palmer said. "Siva was a world-class junior and had some good success of the PSA tour. Having her training with the women's team will definitely boast the overall team, and she should be one of the strongest players in the College Squash Association."

Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Subramaniam is currently ranked 46th in the world. She's competed in seven PSA World Tour tournaments and two PSA Challenger Tour events this year. One of the latter events occurred two weeks ago, when she advanced to the semifinals of the Golootlo Pakistan Women's Open.

Subramaniam has been named the 2018 PSA Young Player of the Year. She's also received the Asian Squash Federation Performance Award in 2016, and the 2017 College Tuanku Jaafar Outstanding Achievement in Sport honor.

Cornell is 1-2 and most recently ranked eighth in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings. Subramaniam is expected to join the Big Red after its current six-week hiatus, which ends with three matches Jan. 12-13 against #1 Harvard, #5 Stanford and #10 Dartmouth.
