Evan Bynoe won three-set matches to help the men's tennis team pull away from Penn State for a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.
The score was tied at 2 with the day's final three singles matches headed to third sets. Grunberger (No. 3) and Bynoe (No. 6) were the first off court to wrap up the victory for Cornell (2-3), and junior
David Volfson was one game away from toppling a nationally-ranked opponent at the No. 1 position before play was halted. Cornell improved to 28-12 all-time against Penn State (3-4).
The Nittany Lions won the doubles point to start the day, despite a win from sophomore
Joseph McAllister and Volfson – competing from the No. 2 position for the first time this season. Similarly, junior
Jake Hansen (No. 5) and sophomore
Pietro Rimondini (No. 4) moved up the singles order and cruised to straight-set victories to account for Cornell's first two points.
The Big Red will next compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Yale from Feb. 16-18 in New Haven, Conn.
