PRINCETON, N.J. -- Cornell's
Daria Schneider and Penn's Andy Ma were named Co-Ivy League women's fencing Coach of the Year, after a vote by the Ivy fencing head coaches.
In just her second year at the helm, Schneider guided the Big Red fencers to strong individual efforts at the Fencing Round-Robins. Cornell had four top-10 finishes in both saber and foil, and of the four fencers, three were freshmen recruited by Schneider –
Marigot Fackenthal,
Grace Ding, and All-Ivy selection
Marissa Viqueira. Three of Cornell's top-10 finishers competed in the foil, a squad that earned victories over No. 4 Princeton, No. 9 Penn, Brown, and Yale, while handing Ivy Champion Columbia's foil squad 50 percent of its losses for the entire competition.
The 2018 women's fencing All-Ivy teams were selected following the competition on Sunday. The top three finishers in each weapon earn All-Ivy first team honors and the next three fencers in each weapon earned second-team honors.
L to R: Assistant Coach Nichole Ross, Head Coach Daria Schneider, former Big Red coach Michel Sebastiani, Volunteer Assistant Zach Boynton.
