Final Tuneups At Home For Polo Teams

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's polo teams will play their final tuneups before nationals when the Central New York Polo Club visits Ithaca this weekend. The women will play on Friday, March 16 and the men on Saturday, March 17. Both matches will commence at 7:30 p.m. at Oxley Equestrian Center.

At 16-2 and with a 14-match win streak and a regional title in its pocket, the Big Red will be looking to maintain its momentum into nationals when it meets CNY. It will be the first meeting between the teams since Cornell escaped with a 14-13 shootout victory last February. The women have won 15 national titles and have advanced to the national title game in six of the last seven seasons with championships in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Head coach David Eldredge, in his 33rd year directing the program, sports a 518-145-17 (.774) record.

The Big Red men stand at 14-3 and are 12-1 in their last 13, including a 15-13 victory over Western University in the regional finals. Cornell will be eyeing the program's 12th national title. Eldredge has a 469-185-8 (.715) record in his 33 years on the sidelines for the Big Red, including 31 straight appearances in the finals of the Northeast Regionals and 15 consecutive trips to nationals, as well as the 2005 USPA collegiate national title.
