NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale pitching stymied Cornell's bats all afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from the Big Red with a pair of shutouts on Saturday afternoon at DeWitt Family Stadium. The Big Red fell to 7-12 (2-3 Ivy), while the Bulldogs improved to 7-17 (4-4 Ivy) with 5-0 and 4-0 victories.
Game One
Lisa Nelson struck out a career-high nine batters and allowed just three earned runs, but the Big Red couldn't get their bats going against Yale's Terra Jerpbak in a 5-0 loss. The Bulldog hurler allowed just four hits in the complete game shutout.
Freshman Avery Voehl had a double and Megan Murray, Rebecca Kubena and Erin Rockstorh each had base hits, with Rockstroh adding a walk.
The game was scoreless through three until the Bulldogs scratched together a run in the fourth with consecutive extra-base hits for the home team, including an RBI triple by Sydney Grobman. Yale scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull away highlighted by a two-run homer by Madison Sack.
Game Two
Yale jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and that was plenty for Francesca Casalino, who hurled a three-hut shutout in a 4-0 game two victory.
Katie Lew was effective for the Big Red in the circle in the loss, scattering seven hits and two earned runs in 6.0 innings of work. Bridgette Rooney had a double and both Megan Murray and Erin Rockstroh had singles in the loss.
