HANOVER, N.H. -- Megan Murray had a pair of hits, but two big innings by Dartmouth helped the Big Green complete the season series sweep with a 10-0 victory over Cornell on Tuesday afternoon at Dartmouth Softball Field. The Big Red fell to 11-18 (6-6 Ivy), while the Big Green improved to 15-14 (9-3 Ivy).
The Big Green scored five times in the third and four more in the fourth, the last three on back-to-back home runs by Schae Nelson and Taylor Ward. Nelson finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Ward doubled in addition to her home run. The offense, which generated eight hits, made a winner of Breanna Ethridge. Ethride gave up three hits and struck out five before giving way to Shelby Wilkison, who completed the shutout with a perfect fifth inning.
Murray was 2-for-2, upping her season average to .402, but the Big Red could only muster three total hits in five innings. Kate Jencarelli also had a single. Lisa Nelson struck out five in three innings, but allowed six runs in falling to 6-6 on the year.
Cornell will attempt to shake off the loss when it begins a three-game road series at Penn beginning on Saturday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m.
