Six Newcomers Join Men's Basketball For 2018-19 Season

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's basketball team will welcome six newcomers for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign. Four incoming student-athletes will make up the Class of 2022, while two junior college transfers will have two seasons of eligibility for head coach Brian Earl's squad.

Kobe Dickson

6-9 * 235 * Holcomb, Kan. (Holcomb HS)
• Dickson was a three-time all-league and two-time all-area and all-state selection at Holcomb HS.
• Averaged 15.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 67 percent from the floor as a senior.
• Appeared in two state finals, winning the crown as a junior and finishing as runner-up as a senior while earning all-tournament honors both years.
• Elected team captain twice.
• As a junior, Dickson averaged 9.8 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting better than 60 percent from the field.
• Also won a state title as a freshman and captured honorable mention all-league honors as a sophomore.
• Dickson lettered one season in baseball.
 

Matt Harshany

6-0 * 180 * Pace, Fla. (Navarre HS)
• Earned second-team all-state honors as a senior at Navarre HS.
• Averaged 26.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a senior.
• Graduated with school career and season records for points, assists and 3-pointers made.
• Scored a school-record 51 points in a single game.
• Was a two-time all-region selection by the Northwest Florida Daily News and Pensacola News Journal.
• Scored more than 1,500 career points and connected on 242 career 3-pointers - including 97 as a senior.
• Chosen to play in the Subway All-Star Classic and Panama City News herald East-West All-Star Classic.
Twice named team MVP and captain.
• Earned all-tournament honors at the Northwest Florida Shootout in each of his final two years.
 

Chaz Mack

6-6 * 210 * Tucson, Ariz. (Catalina Foothills HS/Cochise College)
• Mack was a second-team NJCAA Division I All-American as a sophomore at Cochise College.
• Earned first-team all-league and all-region accolades in 2017-18 after helping his team to a 23-9 record.
• He was the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder in the conference, averaging 19.9 points and 10.1 rebounds.
• Paced all junior college players in defensive rebounds (332) and ranked 22nd in rebounding average and 29th in points per game.
• Shot 52 percent from the floor, 37 percent from 3-point range and 89 percent from the free-throw line as a sophomore.
• Posted 18 double-doubles as a sophomore, including a 43-point, 13-rebound game.
• Averaged 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the free-throw line as a freshman in 2015-16.
• Received the Pinnacle Award of Academic Excellence by the NJCAA after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA as a freshman.
• Attended Hillcrest Academy for one year as a postgraduate.
• Was a two-time first-team all-state selection at Catalina Foothills HS.
• A two-time All-Southern Arizona first-team pick, he was named the Southern Arizona Performer of the Year and the regional Player of the Year as a junior after posting 19.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 53 percent from the floor.
• Scored 1,085 points and grabbed 614 rebounds in his three-year varsity career.
 

Thurston McCarty

6-7 * 175 * Shubuta, Miss. (Quitman HS/East Central Community College)
 • Averaged 12.6 points, 5.2 rebound sand 1.8 assists per game as a sophomore at East Central Community College while shooting 42 percent from the floor overall and 34 percent from 3-point range.
• Recorded four 20-point games and one double-double.
• Posted 5.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game as a freshman.
• Averaged 16.5 points, 12 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game as a senior at Quitman HS, earning all-league and all-region honors.
• Named one of the Top Seniors to Watch by the Clarion-Ledger prior to his final season.
• Was named MVP of the Hotbed Classic as a senior.
• Helped the team to a state runner-up finish as a junior, hitting the game-winning 3-pointer in overtime in the semifinals.
 

Dean Noll

6-2 * 180 * Medford, N.J. (Shawnee HS)
• Named the Courier Post and Burlington County Times' Basketball Player of the Year as a senior at Shawnee HS.
• Earned second-team all-state honors after averaging 21.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a senior while shooting 56 percent overall and 40 percent from 3-point range.
• Took home group, conference and county player of the year accolades.
• Helped guide the team to a state title in his final season, earning MVP honors for the championship game.
• Broke the school's single-season scoring record with 737 points - besting the previous mark of 675 set by Cornell head coach Brian Earl's brother, Dan.
• Part of a South Jersey championship team as a junior.
• Scored a total of 1,588 career points.
 

Max Samberg

6-3 * 190 * Rye, N.Y. (Rye HS)
• Samberg was named all-league, all-conference and all-section as a senior at Rye HS.
• Captained the league championship team in his senior season.
• Earned the Court of Excellence Award for Basketball, Academics and Community Service in his final year.
• Named to the Lower Hudson Basketball Coaches Association All-Star team.
• Named the Con-Edison Player of the Week
