Bucknell Upends Field Hockey In Season Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team got off to a hot start, scoring four first half goals, and held off a surging Big Red to hand Cornell a 5-0 loss in its season opener at Graham Field in Lewisburg, Pa.

Junior goalie Maddie Henry made seven saves, including five in the first half, but seven Bison penalty corners over the first 35 minutes led to four goals and the Big Red could not recover.

Play evened out in the second half and after being outshot in the first half, 12-0, Cornell held the advantage in the second, 10-3. The Big Red also earned four penalty corners in the second stanza, while holding the home team to just two.

Five different Bucknell players found the back of the net, and Bison goalie Olivia Harris finished with seven saves to earn the shutout.

Cornell (0-1) is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 2 when it travels to Lock Have to take on the Lady Eagles at 1 p.m.
