AMHERST, N.Y. – Seven members from the Cornell men's cross country team finished in the top 16, as the Big Red took first place at The University at Buffalo Stampede Cross Country Invitational. The 8k race was held at the Audubon Golf Course on Friday.
 
Six of the Big Red's top-seven finishers were freshmen.

Cornell finished with 41 points, which was four fewer than second-place Buffalo. The field consisted of 82 runners from six complete teams and had two other individual entries.
 
Tomás Reimer was the first member of the squad to cross the finish line. The senior finished third in the whole field with a time of 25:18.8, which was one second behind the second-place finisher.
 
Cornell had a three freshman finish in the top 10: Matthew Fusco, Greg Fusco and James Granata. Matthew Fusco, who had the fastest time of fall freshmen in the field, ran to a sixth place finish with a time of 25:25.4. His twin brother, Greg, came in eighth with a mark of 25:35.8. Granata completed the course in 25:37.4, which was good for 10th place.
 
Cornell had another trio of freshman finish in the top 16. Marek Nowak, Caleb McCurdy and Morgan Cupp finished 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively. Nowak ran the course in 26:01, while McCurdy and Cupp finished side-by-side with times of 26:01.1 and 26:06.2, respectively.
 
Also competing for the Big Red were Alex Mocarski (25th, 26:28.1), Tyler Fisher (28th, 26:32.6), Brandon Phillips (33rd, 26:40.5), Steve Neumaier (36th, 26:46.5), James Avery (41st, 27:11.9), Kevin Van Vorst (47th, 27:34.3), Paul Casavant (48th, 27:34.6), Edward Belsoi (49th, 27:39.9) and Robert Whitney (69th, 29:15.6).
 
Cornell returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when it travels down to part take in the Lehigh Paul Short Run.
