LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. –
Aidan Julia Reineman scored her first collegiate goal, but the Cornell women's soccer team couldn't dig itself out of an early hole in a 2-1 loss to Siena on Monday afternoon at sweltering Siena Field.
Siena (3-1-1) scored twice in the opening 40 minutes, a period of time in which Cornell (1-2) had one shot on goal – an offering from
Julianna Shrekgast in the 16
th minute that was stopped by Saints goalie Taylor Dorado.
But the Big Red got back in the game early in the second half of Reineman's strike in the 51st minute. A fellow freshman,
Evanthia Spyredes, drew the assist with a pass that teed up Reineman's blast over the goalkeeper from about 25 yards out.
Senior goalkeeper
Meghan Kennedy made four saves for Cornell, including three after Reineman's goal to keep the Big Red close through the second half. Shrekgast had the Big Red's last attempt at goal with 3:30 to play, forcing Dorado's second and final stop.
Cornell will have a short turnaround before its next game, returning home for a match against Le Moyne at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Berman Field. The game will be broadcast on the Ivy League on ESPN.
