ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's swimming and diving team won four events, but Columbia's depth and strong start allowed the Lions to capture a 164-136 dual meet victory on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Pool.
Cornell picked up its first win of the afternoon when
Ryan Brown (57.71) and
Slater Goodman (57.77) finished 1-2 in the 100 breast, then Brown completed the event sweep by topping the field in the 200 breast (2:05.16).
The Big Red also finished strong, taking the final three events of the day - the 100 fly, the 200 IM and the 400 free relay.
James Huang (49.51) and
Jacob Mullin (49.90) took the top two spots on the podium in the fly, while
Min Zhi Chua (1:53.69) and
Ricardo Martinez (1:55.29) touched 1-2 in the IM. The free relay consisted of
Koppi Kolyvek, Jack Mahoney,
Hunter Hitchens and Huang and posted a time of 3:06.43.
Divers Brett Hebert (334.80) and
Jameson Crandell (287.18) were 2-2 on the 3-meter board, and finished in the same order on the 1-meter board (Hebert with a 326.25 and Crandell with a 257.70).
Cornell earned a number of runner-up placements, including the 200 medley relay team of
Dylan Curtis, Goodman, Mullin and Mahoney (1:30.44).
Jake Lawson took second in the 1,000 free (9:42.26), Mullin matched that finish in the 100 back (51.37), Chua touched second in the 200 fly (1:52.04), Mahoney joined them with silver in the 50 free (20.74) and Matt Daniel scored second place points in the 500 free (4:40.05).
Cornell closes out its home Ivy dual meet season and celebrates Senior Day when it hosts Yale on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at Teagle Pool.
