ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell won nine events and picked up its first win over Yale since the 2011-12 campaign with an exciting 148-146 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Pool. The Big Red picked up its second win of the year by snapping a seven-meet losing skid to the Bulldogs and sent the seniors out with a win in their final home meet.
Min Zhi Chua's win in the 200 IM in the last individual race (1:52.20), with
Ricardo Martinez taking second (1:52.49), all but clinched the dual for the Big Red. Yale needed a 1-2-3 relay sweep to close out the meet for the win, but the Big Red took third to secure the final points in its victory.
Cornell got off to a great start, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:31:45, holding off Yale by .19 on the strength of swims by
Dylan Curtis,
Slater Goodman,
Jacob Mullin and Jack Mahoney.
Koppi Kolyvek captured the 200 free in 1:39.68 and
Ryan Brown edged out the competition with a 56.07 time in the 100 breast and a 2:01.35 in the 200 breast.
James Huang also earned an individual win in the 200 fly (1:50.50). Rounding out the swimming victories was Martinez in the 200 back (1:50.22).
Brett Hebert led 1-2-3 sweeps in both diving events for the Big Red in the diving well on Friday afternoon.
The Big Red will visit St. Bonaventure for a non-conference competition on Monday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m.
