OLEAN, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's swimming and diving team won 15 of 16 events and cruised to a 148-93 dual meet win over St. Bonaventure on Monday afternoon at the Reilly Center Pool. The Big Red improved to 3-4, while the Bonnies fell to 1-4.
After coming from behind to top the Bonnies in the meet-opening 400 medley relay (
Jacob Mullin,
Ryan Brown,
James Huang,
Hunter Hitchens), Cornell won six straight swimming events to take control of the meet.
Ian Russiello (9:59.23) and
Van Cates (10:03.49) went 1-2 in the 1,000 free, followed by
Min Zhi Chua (1:44.39) and
Jordan Blitz (1:46.07) taking the top two spots in the 200 free. Jack Mahoney touched first in a fast 50 free, winning in 20.64, then took first in the 100 fly in 50.66.
Ricardo Martinez (4:08.64) kept the momentum in the 400 IM and
Jacob Mullin earned a win in the 100 free (47.63), with
Pierson Ohr taking second (47.95).
Koppi Kolyvek (4:46.80 in the 500 free) and
Slater Goodman (57.94 in the 100 breast) also took home victories.
The 200 free relay B squad of Jack Mahoney,
Dylan Curtis,
Cyrus Morrison and Matt Daniel captured the 200 free relay in 1:25.15 to cap the win.
Brett Hebert won both the 1-meter (306.90) and 3-meter (320.10) diving competitions earlier on Monday to give the Big Red a fast start in the team race.
The Big Red will close out dual meet season this weekend with a pair of dual meets in Rhode Island. Cornell will face Bryant on Friday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m., then visits Brown in its Ivy finale on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 12 p.m.
