Women's Squash Dominant In 9-0 Win at GW

WASHINGTON – Siva Subramaniam won her collegiate debut and the lower portion of the order was dominant in the women's squash team's 9-0 sweep of George Washington on Friday night at Lerner Health and Wellness Center.

The victory snapped a seven-match losing streak for Cornell (2-7), which is ranked 12th in the most recent Dunlop College Squash Rankings — one spot ahead of George Washington (2-9). The Big Red never trailed in any match, and it has now won all seven meetings in program history against the Colonials.

After being added to the roster for the season's second semseter, the highly touted Subramaniam was strong in her collegiate debut. Now ranked 51st in the world by the Professional Squash Association, she won in three games against GW's Zoe Foo Yuk Han at the No. 1 position. Freshman Lily Zelov (No. 2) and junior Madison Miles (No. 3) each won in four games, and junior Colby Gallagher was forced all the way into a fifth before closing out her match at No. 4.

But Cornell's dominance stemmed from the five matches down the order – all decided in three games. Senior Lauren Leizman yielded just three points in her match at No. 5, and sophomore Mimi deLisser just eight at No. 6. Freshman Steph Tan (No. 9) improved to 6-3 on the season.

Cornell wraps up its trip with a visit to Franklin & Marshall at 4 p.m. Saturday. The match against the Diplomats will be streamed by F&M through Stretch Internet.
