Volleyball Powers Past Dartmouth, 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell volleyball (11-2, 4-0) team came out on a mission on Friday night, powering past Dartmouth, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19), at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y.

With the victory, the Big Red has now won nine straight contests, marking the first time that Cornell has posted such a streak since the Big Red did so in three consecutive seasons from 2004-06. Just as impressive, Cornell's 3-0 victory over the Big Green is the Big Red's seventh sweep of the season. The win also improves the Big Red to a perfect 4-0 in Ivy League play.

Cornell's victory tonight was a total team effort, as new and familiar faces stepped up. Madison Baptiste continues to be a staple of the Big Red attack, notching a season- and match-high 13 kills while chipping in seven digs, one block assist, and one service ace. Jillienne Bennett and Joanna Chang were also firing on all cylinders, recording eight kills apiece. The trio of Baptiste, Bennett, and Chang were a key reason why the Big Red out-hit the Big Green .267 to .096 on the match.

Freshman Emma Worthington not only showed off her setting skills on Friday evening, but proved that she is a dual-threat who is not afraid to attack the opponent head on. Worthington tallied a collegiate-best 36 assists against the Big Green, out-assisting the entire Dartmouth team, who registered 21 assists. As if this wasn't enough, Worthington notched 11 digs, five kills, and three service aces, contributing to the Big Red victory in any way that she could.

Casey Justus and Katie Randolph also shined in the Big Red's victory. Justus was a looming presence at the net, capturing a match-high four block assists to go along with six kills. Randolph showed off her strong defensive skills, collecting 13 digs while also adding two service aces.

The Big Red will be back in action tomorrow when it hosts Harvard at 5 p.m. at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y.
