Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. - The Cornell field hockey team fought hard but UAlbany ended up with the 5-0 win, Sunday evening.

The Big Red started the game with its best quarter. Cornell saw a 3-2 advantage in shots with a 2-0 edge in penalty corners. The Great Dane defense was able to stop each shot attempt, keeping the score 0-0 going into the first quarter break.

UAlbany amped up their pressure for the second quarter, eventually scoring its first goal in the sixth minute. The Cornell defense kept up but could not stop the second Great Dane goal scored five minutes later. The Big Red entered halftime down, 2-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Kubit stepped into the net for the Big Red saving all but one shot on goal in the third quarter. The Cornell defense kept up a good fight, but it was not enough to stop the UAlbany offense as they expanded to a 3-0 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter saw two extra Great Dane goals. Though the Big Red offense was able to keep possession of the ball for seven shots, four on goal, the UAlbany defense would not allow the ball to cross into the net as the Great Danes sealed their 5-0 win.

UAlbany finished with the 15-13 advantage in shots, including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. The Great Danes also held the 10-6 advantage in penalty corners at the last buzzer. Cornell's shots came from all over the roster but three different players finished with two each: freshman forward Natalie Stone, senior defender Kristen Ferguson and junior midfielder Taylor Gladd.

Senior goalie Maddie Henry made four saves in the first half, while Kubit made three in the second.

The Big Red will be back in action on Wednesday, October 23rd for a 4 p.m. game against Lehigh on Marsha Dodson Field.
