ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's polo program swept its competition this past weekend defeating opponents from Westport Polo and Skidmore College. Cornell is now off to a spotless 3-0 start, marking the programs best start to a season since 2016-17 when the team won seven straight matches to start the season.
The Big Red defeated Westport from the confines of the Oxley Equestrian Center on Saturday, Oct. 19 by a final score of 14-11. A short turnaround saw Cornell travel to Saratoga Springs for a match against Skidmore College on Sunday, Oct. 20, where the Big Red were victorious, 13-4.
Cornell will play at the 2019 University of Virginia Polo Fall Invitational this week, first facing Southern Methodist on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. The winner of Thursday's match will advance to face the winner of Virginia and Kentucky in the finals on Saturday, Oct. 26. The losers will play a consolation match that precede's the finals on Saturday. Cornell last won the UVA Fall Invitational in 2016 when they swept SMU, UVA and Texas A&M en route to the title.
