ITHACA, N.Y. - The women's cross country team will travel to Van Cortlandt Park to compete in the Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships. All of the Ivy League schools, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale will be competing in the race.
The first Heptagonal Cross Country Championship was held in 1977, Cornell joined in 1978. The Big Red has six team titles from 1991 (44 points), '92 (27 points), '93 (31 points), '98 (56 points), 2011 (49 points) and '12 (31 points). Stephanie Best (1990), Pam Hunt (1991, '92), Laura Woeller (1993, '94) and
Katie Kellner (2012) each hold individual Heptagonal titles for Cornell.

About the Big Red
- The Cornell women opened the season at the Yellowjacket Invitational with a first place finish, out of 16 teams, at the Rochester, N.Y. park. Tess Reyes finished first for Cornell, fourth place overall, with a time of 22:35.7. Amanda Stone, Katherine Storti and Sarah Roffman also represented Cornell in the top-10.
- The team followed their first meet at the Iona Meet of Champions with a second-place finish, out of 11 teams. Taylor Knibb finished first for Cornell, fourth place overall, with a time of 17:59.6. Kyleigh Spearing rounded out the Big Red in the top-10 with a ninth-place finish.
- For its third race, the Big Red went to the Paul Short run. Taylor Knibb finished in 18th-place to lead the Big Red to a 10th-place finish in the gold race.
- Cornell split Oct. 19 for the Pre-National Invitational and the Canisius Classic. The women placed 20th, out of 37 teams, at the Pre-National Invitational and 1st, out of 13 teams, at the Canisius Classic.
- For its final regular season meet, the Big Red hosted the John Reif Memorial Run. Team scores were not calculated, but Cornell had five runners in the top-10.
Last Time Out
- At the John Reif Memorial Run senior Victoria Casarrubias finished the 5k first for Cornell, and fifth-place overall, in 18:57.4. Also finishing in the top ten was freshman Meredith Bloss (6th, 18:57.7), junior Kaitlyn Bonnet (7th, 19:03.1), sophomore Lucy Hurt (9th, 19:07.2), and junior Brooke Olson (10th, 19:12.3).
- Senior Sara O'Malley, sophomore Erin Hudson, sophomore Zoe Wilkie Tomasik, senior Brooke Laskowsky, sophomore Allyson Gaedje, freshman Clara Harman, senior Allie Kemp and junior Kyra Hunsberger also ran at the John Reif Memorial Run.
2019 Top Tens
2018 Post-Season Winners
- Earning a top 25 finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, Taylor Knibb and Isabella Dobson were placed on the 2018 NCAA All-Northeast Region team.
- Knibb also earned a spot on the 2018 First Team All-Ivy League after placing in the top seven at the Heptagonal Championships.
Three of a Kind
- The Big Red women's cross country captains have been announced. Audrey Huelskamp, Taylor Knibb, and Gabrielle Orie will be the 2019 captains.
- A senior captain, Knibb finished her junior season at the NCAA Championships with a 109th-place finish (out of 244 runners). An all-region athlete, Knibb ran a 6k personal record at the Paul Short Gold in 2016 (20:45.0). Earning 5th place at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, Orie earned her highest finish in 2018.
- Also a senior, Huelskamp ran in the Heptagonals for two years before running in and placing 54th at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regionals. She ran a 6k personal record at the Paul Short Gold in 2016 (21:46.1). Earning 13th place at the UB Stampede XC Invite, Huelskamp earned her highest finish in 2018.
- A 2017 First Team All-Ivy runner, Orie ran a 6k personal record at the Paul Short Gold in 2017 (20:38.7). Earning 35th place at the UB Stampede XC Invite, Orie earned her highest finish in 2018.
- After being an assistant coach for men's cross country/track and field for two years at Cornell, Mike Henderson was named the Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Coach of Women's Track & Field/Men's and Women's Cross Country in August of 2019.
- During those two years with the Big Red's men's middle- and long-distance runners, Henderson has coached one NCAA cross country championship qualifier, 13 Ivy League and six IC4A point scorers.
- Henderson's Ivy and IC4A point scorers include four top three finishes and one championship performance.
- He has also overseen four Big Red all-time top 10 performances and has had three athletes break Cornell freshman records.
