Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#3 Women's Ice Hockey Downs Yale, 6-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior Kristin O'Neill and junior Maddie Mills notched three points each as the #3 Cornell women's ice hockey team cruised its way to a 6-0 victory over Yale, Friday night, at Lynah Rink.

This also marks the fourth shutout of the season and junior Lindsay Browning's fifth of her career. With the shutout, the goalie moves into the top ten for Cornell's all-time seasonal records. As it stands, Browning is in tenth place with four shutouts in 2019-20. Against Yale, she denied all 15 shots she faced.

Senior Amy Curlew scored first less than a minute into the game. Just 43 seconds into the game, senior Kristin O'Neill wrapped around the goal for a pass to Curlew. Curlew then slipped a short shot in between the goalie's legs for a Big Red goal. Not even two minutes later, O'Neill put a backhanded shot above the goalie for a tally of her own.

To close out scoring in the first period, sophomore Gillis Frechette scored Cornell's third goal in five minutes. With 14:36 on the clock, freshman Izzy Daniel tipped the puck to senior Paige Lewis after beating a Bulldog for the 50-50 skate. Frechette received the pass from Lewis in the corner and dumped the puck into the net with a backhanded shot at 14:31. Yale is not able to answer Cornell's goals in the final 14.5 minutes as the Big Red enters the first intermission with a 3-0 lead.

Unlike the first period, Cornell was unable to score until the 11th minute. With approximately nine minutes left, O'Neill took a loose puck from Cornell's defensive zone and brought it all the way across the ice for a shot. Her shot bounced off the post but before the puck even touched the ice, Mills hit it into the net for a Big Red goal. Up 4-0, Cornell closed the second period with two goals in three minutes. At 17:31, Frechette scored her second goal of the night off a rebound, while Curlew also scored her second of the night about a minute later during a power play.

The Bulldogs were able to hold off the Big Red's attack in the third period, but they were unable to score as Cornell won the game 6-0.

Not only was its offensive attack dominating, but the Big Red's defensive effort was impactful as well. Yale was held to just eight shots on goal through the first two periods of play.

Join the Big Red as they play at Lynah Rink for the final time in 2019 on Saturday (Nov. 16). The puck drop against Brown will occur at 3 p.m.
