Men's Basketball Falls on the Road at DePaul

CHICAGO - Shooting woes plagued the Big Red on Saturday, Nov. 16, as Cornell fell to DePaul from Wintrust Arena, 75-54. Using its size advantage, DePaul packed it into the paint, scoring 40 points at the basket to just 26 for the Big Red. A 23-7 run by the Blue Demons at the end of the first half erased a 21-20 lead for Cornell, who was unable to counter with a run of its own. With a loss, Cornell drops to 1-3, while DePaul remains unbeaten at 5-0.

Terrance McBride led the Big Red in scoring on Saturday, pouring in an efficient 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Also in double-figures for Cornell was Jimmy Boeheim with 12 and Dean Noll with 10. Noll was Cornell's leading rebounder, hauling in seven boards. The length of DePaul's defense held Cornell to 36.8 percent shooting and held to Big Red to a 6-of-27 performance from beyond the arc.

DePaul opened the game on a 17-7 run, but was countered by a barrage of scoring from the Big Red. Boeheim's lay-up with 11:23 remaining in the first half sparked a 14-3 run for Cornell, which adding field goals from Kobe Dickson, McBride, Noll and Riley Voss to take a 21-20 lead. Noll was big for Cornell during the run, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers for the Big Red to counter a triple hit by DePaul's Jalen Coleman-Lands.

On the back of 14 first half points from Paul Reed, the Blue Demons began to pull away, utilizing a 23-7 run over the final eight minutes of the half to take a 43-28 lead into the locker room.

A late surge from Cornell's offense wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, despite the team making five of it's last six shot attempts. The Big Red played DePaul tough in the second half, forcing over six minutes of scoreless play from the Blue Demon offense.
