SYRACUSE, NY -- Jimmy Boeheim scored a game-high 25 points, but Syracuse pulled away in the second half to top Cornell 72-53 on Wednesday evening at the Carrier Dome. The Big Red fell to 1-4, while the Orange improved to 3-1.
The home team shot 60 percent from the floor after the break and hit 10 total 3-pointers to slowly pull away from the Big Red, who trailed just 26-25 at the half.
Playing the team coached by his dad and opposite his brother Buddy, who scored 16 himself, the oldest Boeheim son hit on 7-of-16 shots from the floor and 9-of-11 from the line to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Freshman Jordan Jones added career highs of 15 points and five rebounds for the visitors, who lost against the Orange for the 40th straight time.
Besides Buddy Boeheim's 16, Elijah Hughes tallied 22 points and seven assists, while Joe Girard III notched none points, six rebounds and four assists.

FIRST HALF
• Cornell trailed by as many as nine, but stormed back within 22-19 at the under eight media timeout.
• Jones hit a pair of 3-pointers and the Big Red had four steals, including three in a short stretch to frustrate the Orange offense.
• A backdoor layup for Boeheim at the shot clock buzzer with 2:18 left make it 24-23, and his dad had to call a timeout 52 seconds later when a broken play ended up in
Jimmy Boeheim's hands for a 25-24 lead.
• Buddy hit a jumper with 49 seconds left before halftime to put the home team into the lead for good.
• Boeheim had 12 points at the break to lead the Big Red, while Boeheim led Syracuse with 10 after 20 minutes of play.
SECOND HALF
• Syracuse came out of halftime and scored five straight to almost immediately go up two scores, but consecutive shots by
Jimmy Boeheim before the first media timeout, including a 3-pointer, allowed the Big Red to claw back within two (35-33).
• A 9-2 Orange run extended the lead to nine (44-35), but Cornell answered with a 6-0 spurt of its own to make it 44-41 with 9:48 left.
• That was as close as Cornell would get as Quincy Guerrier posted eight of his 10 points over the span of 3:06, including a 3-pointer that pushed the Syracuse lead to double digits (52-41).
• Syracuse pulled away late, outscoring the Big Red 8-1 over the game's final two minutes to push its lead to 19.
NEXT UP
• Cornell will conclude its four-game road swing when it heads to Maryland for a pair of games beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at Coppin State on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m..
• The two teams have met just once previously, with Coppin State earning an 86-79 victory over the Big Red on Dec. 23, 1989 in the Chaminade Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
