Men's Soccer Places Five on All-Ivy Teams

11/20/2019 3:30:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell men's soccer placed five on the All-Ivy League teams for the 2019 season, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon. Defender Ryan Bayne and midfielder John Scearce garnered first team honors, while defender Connor Drought was named to the second team. Forward Emeka Eneli and midfielder Harry Fuller were selected as honorable mentions.

The five selections are the most for a Cornell side since 2013, when five players earned the designation.

It's the first All-Ivy recognition for Bayne, who served as team captain for each of the last three seasons. Bayne was a key component of Cornell's defense throughout his career, making 60 starts and 66 total appearances. An iron man, Bayne played 1,462 minutes out of a possible 1,503 in 2019 and concludes his career with 5,552 minutes spent on the pitch. Bayne scored twice for Cornell in 2019, including the game-winning overtime goal against Akron on Sept. 28. Bayne was named Ivy League Player of the Week for Sept. 30 following games against Siena and Akron.

Named an All-Ivy honorable mention in 2018, Scearce made the leap in 2019 to become one of the best players in the league. A two-time captain, Scearce led the team with five goals this season. Scearce's game went to another level as the season drew to a close, scoring four goals in Cornell's final five matches.

A freshman from Mukilteo, Wash., Drought earned the first All-Ivy honor of his career on Wednesday. Drought played a major role on Cornell's defensive wings playing the third most minutes on the team (1,364). With three assists, Drought finished the season tied for the second-most on the team with Fuller and George Pedlow.

After being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2018, Eneli followed up that performance with an honorable mention nod in 2019. Eneli played just 12 matches in 2019 due to injury, but was effective when available, scoring three goals and adding two assists. His three goals rank fourth on the team behind Scearce, Fuller and Griffin Garrard.

An aggressive player in the midfield, Fuller's honorable mention recognition is the first of his career. Fuller concludes his junior season tied for the team-high in points (11) following a season in which he scored four times and assisted on three goals. Fuller's 16 shots on goal were the second most on the team as he posted a .593 shot on goal percentage on 27 shots overall. Fuller was named the Ivy League Player of the Week for Sept. 23 after he scored a pair of goals against Canisius.

Cornell's season ended on Saturday following a 4-0 victory over Columbia from Berman Field. The Big Red finished its 2019 year with an overall record of 10-5-2 and a 3-2-2 mark in the Ivy League that saw them finish third in the conference.
