ITHACA, N.Y. – For the first time of her career, Cornell women's basketball senior forward
Laura Bagwell-Katalinich has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
In addition to being honored by the conference, Bagwell-Katalinich was also deemed the College Sports Madness Ivy League Player of the Week.
Bagwell-Katalinich was unstoppable in Cornell's pair of games last week, helping the Big Red to convincing victories over Niagara (82-59) on Thursday and Delaware State (77-51) on Saturday. Between the two contests, Bagwell-Katalinich averaged 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. In addition, she shot 13-of-14 from the charity stripe over the two contests, including a perfect 10-of-10 against Niagara.
Bagwell-Katalinich highlighted five Big Red student-athletes in double figures against the Purple Eagles, pouring in 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting and going a flawless 10-for-10 from the free throw line. This marks the second-consecutive season that Bagwell-Katalinich has notched 10 points in a game from the charity stripe, also doing so in a 66-56 win against Yale on March 1, 2019. In addition to her 22 points on Thursday evening, Bagwell-Katalinich contributed six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Delaware State quite frankly didn't have an answer for Bagwell-Katalinich, as she notched a career-best 29 points (20 coming in the second half) on 13-of-20 shooting. She also corralled 13 rebounds, recording her third double-double of the season in addition to her second-straight 20-point performance. Thanks to Bagwell-Katalinich's efforts, the Big Red are currently on a three-game win streak.
Bagwell-Katalinich and the rest of the Cornell women's basketball team will be back in action when they face UMass-Lowell on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. in Lowell, Mass.
