ITHACA, N.Y. -- Here are some notes from Friday's 21-7 loss to No. 12 Princeton.

Friday Night Lights

  • Cornell's amazing record, albeit in a VERY small sample size, continues for at least another year, as the Big Red hasn't won a Friday night game since 1892 - 127 years ago.
  • The Big Red is now 0-5 since its 16-0 victory over Manhattan Athletics Club and is 1-6 overall on Fridays.
  • Cornell is 63-51-4 on game days other than Saturday, with a majority happening on Thanksgivings against Penn (60 times)..
  • The Big Red is now 33-6 all-time at home on game days that took place on a day other than Saturday.
  • The Big Red had played only five previous games at Schoellkopf Field on a non-Saturday (2-3), and two since the end of World War I (1918) - vs. Colgate in 2015 and Penn in 2018.
  • Prior to 2015, Cornell last played a game on home on a date other than a Saturday against the 47th Infantry of Syracuse in the midst of World War I. On Tuesday, Oct. 16, 1917, the "Raiders" won 6-0.
  • The last win at home on a date other than Saturday came against Gettysburg on Monday, Oct. 9, 1916 — a 26-0 win at Schoellkopf Field — 103 years ago.
  • Cornell had played 464 consecutive home games on Saturdays before its contest with Colgate in 2015.

Climbing The Charts

  • With 52 rushing yards on the day, senior Harold Coles upped his career total to 1,739 yards - good for No. 11 all-time at Cornell and just 12 yards shy of Pete Larson '67 to join the top 10.
  • Coles also surpassed the 2,300-yard mark in all-purpose yards (2,301) and is within three yards of joining the top 20 in Cornell history.
  • Coles is the first player with three straight 500-yard rushing seasons at Cornell since Chad Levitt from 1994-96.
  • With his interception, senior Jelani Taylor upped his total of passes defended (interceptions plus breakups) to 27 - good for seventh on Cornell's career list.
  • Classmate David Jones isn't far behind with 25 (tied for ninth).
  • Taylor now has 10 passes defended this season, joining Nick Gesualdi (2016, 2017) as the only players to hit double digits in a year since 2010, when Emani Fenton had 12.Senior Mo
  • Senior Mo Bradford became the 133rd player in school history to surpass 100 career tackles with his seven stops on the day and ended the contest with 105.
  • Next up to join that list is Jones with 92.
  • After punting six times, senior Nickolas Null now has 99 punts for 4,049 yards - with his average of 40.90 standing second in Cornell history behind only Ivy record holder Chris Fraser (42.75).
  • With three catches for 74 yards against Princeton, junior Phazione McClurge is now averaging 17.4 yards per catch in 2019. The last Cornell player to average better than 17 yards per reception (with at least 20 catches) in a season was Steve Busch (21.5 yards, 27 receptions for 581 yards) in 1995.

Other Notables

  • Cornell allowed the high-octane Princeton offense just 21 points and 338 yards. Over the last three seasons, only one opponent - Dartmouth in 2018, a 14-9 Tigers' win - allowed fewer with 14 points and 310 yards.
  • Princeton was held scoreless in the first quarter, the first time it hadn't scored in the first 15 minutes since Harvard in 2016, a span of 30 games.
  • Jelani Taylor had an interception in his third consecutive Ivy League game.
  • Taylor's forced fumble was the first Princeton fumble the Tigers had lost this season.
  • Cornell stopped the Tigers on fourth-and-1 on two occasions and are now 11-of-15 in stopping opponents on fourth down.
  • Thomas Glover, Dez'mond Brinson and Delonte Harrell each had runs of at least 10 yards against the Princeton, giving the Big Red eight rushers this year with at least one carry for double-digit yards. That is tied for the most in any season since Cornell had 10 players post a carry of at least 10 yards during the 1989 campaign.
  • Eight different players had at least one rush and eight had at least one catch for the Big Red against the Tigers.
  • Cornell is now 10-41-1 all-time against ranked opponents, with its last win over a ranked Ivy opponent coming against No. 15/18 Princeton on Oct. 28, 2006 (14-7).
  • The Big Red will wear stickers on their helmets for the month of November as a salute to the US Military. Stickers include the five branches of the military and the Army National Guard.
