Curlew, Graham Lead #3 Women's Ice Hockey to Fifth Consecutive Win Against St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team added to its winning streak with a 4-1 win over host St. Lawrence, Friday night. The Big Red now has five wins on the 2019-20 season.

Senior forward Amy Curlew scored the first goal of the night with 11:14 on the first-period clock. The power-play goal was scored from the top of the goal crease. Freshman Izzy Daniel collected a rebound and passed the puck to senior forward Paige Lewis. Lewis made a quick pass to Curlew for the Big Red goal.

Less than two minutes later, St. Lawrence answered with a goal of their own. The Saints' Rachel Teslak dumped the puck into the net to tie the score at 1-1. Just two minutes and eight seconds later, Curlew earned the Big Red's lead back. Junior defender Devon Facchinato made a shot towards goal as she stole the puck from a St. Lawrence forward. Curlew took the shot and tipped it upwards and into the net.

After a scoreless second period, senior forward Grace Graham scored two goals to guarantee the Big Red win. With about five minutes left in the game, the Saints threw the puck away for a line change. Junior defender Kendra Nealey capitalized on the loose puck as she collected it behind the Cornell goal and tossed it down the ice to Graham. Graham then turned around for a short-handed goal from the hash marks. Graham closes the game with an easy empty-net tally at 17:51.

Overall, Cornell held a slight edge in shots on goal, 28-25. The Big Red's special teams were in full bloom as Cornell scored during one power play, one man-down situation and killed all four St. Lawrence power plays.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 9) for a 3 p.m. contest at #6 Clarkson.
