Browning With Season-High 28 Saves, #3 Women's Ice Hockey Ties #6 Clarkson, 1-1

11/9/2019 6:23:00 PM

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. - Junior Lindsay Browning posted a season-high 28 saves as the #3 Cornell women's ice hockey team tied #6 Clarkson, 1-1, Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Big Red (5-0-1, 3-0-1 ECAC Hockey) allowed just seven shots in the first 15 minutes. After junior Devon Facchinato was whistled for tripping at 15:19, Cornell's penalty kill unit fought hard to stop Clarkson from scoring. The Golden Knights made three shots through their power-play but were unable to score.

A scoreless second period followed the first and the Big Red entered the final period in regulation tied 0-0.

Cornell got on the board just under four minutes into the third period with a goal from freshman Izzy Daniel. Junior Maddie Mills wrapped around the goal and saw Daniel sitting right outside of the goalie crease. Before Clarkson goalie Marie-Pier Coulombe could even find the puck, Daniel sent it flying into the net.

Less than three minutes later, the Golden Knights tied the score at 1-1. Once Facchinato was called for her second tripping penalty of the evening, Clarkson was just one faceoff away from scoring. After passing the puck for a bit, Golden Knight Elizabeth Giguere dropped a shot to the back corner of the goal, tying the score.

In overtime, Cornell had majority control of the puck during the five minutes of play getting eight shots to Clarkson's five.

The Big Red returns home next weekend when it hosts Yale and Brown. Cornell will take on Yale at 6 p.m. Friday before competing against Brown at 3 p.m. Saturday.
