ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior
Jared Scherl and freshman
Charles Culhane both rattled off their third straight victories, but the men's squash team was handed a 7-2 loss on Sunday by visiting Yale at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (4-9, 1-4 Ivy League), tabbed 14th in the most recent Dunlop College Squash Rankings, got on the board early with Culhane's four-game win in the opening rotation at No. 2 – capped with a 17-15 game to clinch it. But sixth-ranked Yale (9-4, 3-2) swept each of the middle rotation's matches in three games to clinch its 58th win against Cornell in 61 all-time matches.
In the final rotation, Scherl continued his hot hand since returning to regular duty in the lineup. Having appeared in scoring matches just three times before last Sunday's match, Scherl has now won three a row after a four-game victory at No. 9.
Cornell wraps up its regular season next weekend with two more Ivy League matches. The Big Red travels to Penn for a match at 6 p.m. Friday, then returns to Belkin for the regular-season finale against Princeton at noon Sunday.
