ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman Siva Subramaniam continued the red-hot start to her collegiate career with a fourth straight victory at the No. 1 position, accounting for the women's squash team's lone point in an 8-1 loss to Yale on Sunday at Belkin International Squash Courts.
The Big Red's highly-decorated mid-season addition defeated Lucy Beecroft on Sunday in four games. It marked the first time Subramaniam, ranked 45th in the world by the Professional Squash Association, dropped a game – and took a two-time first-team All-America selection to do it.
Though the victory at the top rung on the ladder represented the lone point on the day for Cornell (4-8, 1-4 Ivy League), the nation's 12th-ranked program showed improvement elsewhere in relation to its 9-0 loss to fifth-ranked Yale (9-3, 4-1) last season. Four of the Big Red's other scoring matches went to four games, compared to just two a year ago. The Bulldogs are now 28-1 all-time against Cornell.
The Big Red wraps up its regular season with three matches next weekend. It starts with a visit to Penn at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by the Ivy League finale at home against Princeton at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. St. Lawrence then visits Belkin to complete the doubleheader with a match against Cornell at 5 p.m. Sunday.
