BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Cornell gymnastics team had three strong rotations at the site of the 2019 USAG Collegiate Nationals, but Bridgeport closed strong and the Big Red faltered in its final rotation to give the home team a dual meet win on Saturday afternoon at Wheeler Recreation Center. Bridgeport ended the day with a 194.750, while the Big Red scored 190.225.
Claire Haklik posted a 9.800 on floor to tie for second, while
Samantha Henry placed fifth with a 9.725.
Miranda Lund (third, 9.725) and
Kaitlin Green (fourth, 9.650) led the way on beam, while
Christina Luniewicz and
Payton Murphy tied for fifth on bars (9.750). The top vaulter was
Donna Webster (fourth, 9.775), just edging out
Maci Prescott (fifth, 9.750).
Cornell had a strong day on vault with a 48.600, while registering a 48.375 on floor. The Big Red, meanwhile, had a day to forget on beam in its final rotation on a day where it otherwise was staring at a 193.000 or better for a record fifth straight week.
The Big Red will compete in a pair of meets next weekend, visiting West Chester on Saturday, March 16, before hosting Rutgers the following day in Ithaca.
