ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's polo teams both marched through the USPA Northeast Regionals this past weekend at Oxley Equestrian Center, securing bids to the 2019 Intercollegiate Championships. The men improved to 14-3 with the weekend sweep, while the women moved to 13-7.
The Cornell men captured their 24th regional title in its history, including its 16th in the last 19 years, after claiming a 21-12 win over Western Ontario on Sunday. Cornell had earned a decisive victory over Skidmore in the semifinals. Lorenzo Masias and
Morgan Palacios were elected to the Northeast All-Star team and Palacios also took home the sportsmanship award. The Big Red was warded best playing pony and best playing string at the championship as well.
The women have now won the Northeast Regional 25 times after topping Yale 25-7 in the semis and Connecticut 19-6 in the finals to earn the automatic bid to nationals. Shariah Harris and Rachel Booth were selected to the Northeast All Star team, while the Big Red was awarded best playing pony and best playing string for the weekend.
