UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Cornell gymnastics team posted its third-highest team score in school history to place third overall at the Penn State Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon at Rec Hall. The Big Red went 48.5 or better in each event as a team in competition with some of the nation's top teams. The host Nittany Lions (196.375) held off Arizona State (196.150), while Cornell finished just ahead of Ivy foe Yale (194.100).
The Big Red surpassed Yale after the second rotation and held off the Bulldogs thanks to three top 10 finishes on floor.
Izzy Herczeg tied for third (9.875) and
Claire Haklik (9.825) and
Samantha Henry had matching 9.825's to tie for ninth.
Payton Murphy was the highest individual finisher of the day, claiming a tie for second on beam with a 9.825.
Miranda Lund took fifth with a 9.800 in the event.
Donna Webster tied for third on vault (9.850) with
Lyanda Dudley also claiming a top 10 individual effort (9.775). Dudley also finished in the top 10 on bars (eighth, 9.800).
Cornell returns home for a dual meet on Sunday, March 17 when the Big Red competes against Rutgers at 1 p.m.
