Doug Derraugh, the head coach of the Cornell women's hockey team, was named the CCM/American Hockey Coaches Association Women's Division I National Coach of the Year and
Jaime Bourbonnais, a junior defenseman was tabbed a CCM/American Hockey Coaches Association Second Team All-American at the Women's Frozen Four banquet Thursday night.
This is the second time in his career that Derraugh has been named the national coach of the year, as he earned the distinction after leading the program to its first Frozen Four appearance in program history in 2010.
The Big Red finds its way back in the Frozen Four for the fourth time under the tutelage of Derraugh and its first since 2012. Cornell beat Northeastern in the NCAA Quarterfinal last weekend, 3-2, in overtime.
Already the recipient of the Ivy League and ECAC Hockey coach of the year honors, the 14th year head guided the Big Red to its first regular season league championship since 2013, as it posted a league record of 17-3-2. The Big Red also earned its seventh all-time berth in the NCAA Tournament, earning the No. 6 seed.
Bourbonnais adds to her list of accolades this season. The junior from Mississauga, Ontario, was named ECAC Hockey's Best Defenseman, in addition to being tabbed the all-ECAC Hockey and all-Ivy first teams.
Bourbonnais enters is currently third in the nation amongst defensemen in points per game with an average of .94. She is also fourth in the nation in both assists per game (.65) and goals per game (.32). The junior defenseman has notched eight multipoint games this season. Additionally Bourbonnais leads the team in plus/minus (+30).
Cornell takes on Minnesota in the national semifinal at 4 p.m. Friday at the People's United Center.
