Second Half Surge Lifts #10 Men’s Lax Over Dartmouth, 15-5

ITHACA, N.Y. – After a brilliant display by both team's goalies saw No. 10 Cornell take a 4-2 lead over Dartmouth at halftime, the Big Red exploded for 11 second half goals to run away with the 15-5 victory this afternoon on Schoellkopf Field. The win was the first in Ivy League play this season as Cornell improved to 6-3 overall (1-2 Ivy), while the Big Green remains winless in conference (0-2) and slips to 2-6 on the season.
 
Jeff Teat led all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists, while Jake McCulloch and Clarke Petterson also finished with hat tricks. John Piatelli and Jonathan Donville both tallied two goals and one assist as 10 different Big Red found their way into the point column.
 
In goal, Chayse Ierlan was impressive with 12 saves and just five goals-against for his highest save percentage of the season (.706).
 
The Cornell defense harassed the Big Green into 28 turnovers and 10 failed clears (17-of-27) with nine caused turnovers on the day.  Brandon Salvatore posted four on the afternoon to move into fifth place all-time in Big Red history with 55 career caused turnovers. Salvatore also picked up a game-high five ground balls.
 
Dartmouth was kept in the game by its goalie, Daniel Hincks. The rookie netminder made 10 saves in the first half and finished the game with 17 overall to become the first opposing goalie this season to finish with a save percentage better than .500.
 
Ben Martin scored three goals for the visitors.
 
Cornell held the advantage in shots (48-30), shots on goal (32-17), ground balls (39-29) and face-offs (16-of-23).  In the circle, Paul Rasimowicz went 5-of-8 in the first half, while Luca Tria won 8-12 and Tim Graham took 3-of-4, to go along with a goal.
 
The Big Red also held Dartmouth to an 0-of-4 performance on its man-up chances, while scoring on 2-of-7 opportunities.
 
The teams traded goals to start the contest as a goal from Donville with just 17 seconds to play in the first quarter sent the teams into the first break knotted at 2-2.
 
Teat scored an unassisted goal just 2:34 into the second quarter and McCulloch tacked on a score at the 5:20 mark to send Cornell into halftime with the 4-2 lead.
 
The Big Red never trailed again, scoring five times in the third quarter and pushing its lead to 10-3 early in the fourth.
 
Back-to-back goals by Martin made it a 10-5 contest with 8:23 to play, but Cornell scored the final five goals of the day to take the 15-5 victory.
 
Cornell begins a four-game road stretch when it travels to Harvard for a noon contest on Saturday, April 9.
