Saturday Softball Doubleheader Moved To 1:30 PM Start

Softball Welcomes Dartmouth For Three-Game League Set

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell softball team will have a chance to snap Dartmouth's long win streak over the Big Red when the two squads meet for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Niemand-Robison Field. The two teams will also meet for a single game on Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. first pitch. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Cornell enters the weekend having dropped 11 consecutive contests to the Big Green despite dominating the series prior to the current streak. The Big Red leads the all-time series 38-20, including 21-8 in Ithaca. Cornell's last win over Dartmouth came in 2013 (10-9), with its last victory in Ithaca coming in a doubleheader sweep in 2012.

The Big Red is 6-28 on the season while fielding one of the youngest teams in college softball, with seven of the squad's nine position players and one of the squad's two starting pitchers in their freshmen seasons. Despite their youth, head coach Julie Farlow's squad is second in the league in home runs (17) and doubles (45). Cornell's batting average (.263) and fielding percentage (.951) in league play is better than its overall totals, and the team is 3-9 in its last 12 contests after going 3-19 to begin the year.

Freshman Allison Kerce (.321, five home runs, 20 RBI) is batting .424 with a league-high four home runs in its nine conference contests. Six of the team's top eight hitters this season have been freshmen, with junior Bridgette Rooney batting a team-high .326 with four home runs and a team-best 21 RBI. In fact, seniors have only accounted for six of the team's 852 at bats offensively (99.3 percent), with freshmen accounting for 607 (71.2 percent).

Freshman Ashley Delany (3-8, 7.66 ERA) and junior Katie Lew (3-14, 9.33 ERA) both have three victories in the circle, with Lew striking out 50 in 78 innings of work. Junior Lisa Nelson has missed much of the last month due to injury, but returned in last Tuesday's doubleheader split with Colgate to hurl 2.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts. Backing them is a team that sports a .951 fielding percentage

Dartmouth is 6-23 overall and 3-9 in Ivy play and enters the weekend with a four-game losing streak. Micah Schroder has played at an All-Ivy level all year, hitting .436 with six home runs, 21 RBI and a .494 on-base percentage. Both Taylor Ward (.310, three home runs, 18 RBI) and Billie McFadyen (.310, two home runs, 8 RBI) are also hitting better than .300. As a team, Dartmouth is hitting .266 with a .946 fielding percentage. Madie Augusto is 3-10 with a pair of saves and a 3.95 ERA to go along with 48 strikeouts. Shelby Wilkinson (3-8, 6.16 ERA) leads the team in starts with 12. First year head coach Jennifer Williams came to Hanover, N.H. from MIT, where she posted the most wins in school history (168) and two trips to the DIII College World Series.
