Women’s Basketball Announces Class of 2023

ITHACA, N.Y. – Dayna Smith, the Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball has announced that four student-athletes will join the Big Red as members of the Class of 2023. The group hails from four different states and boasts three guards and one forward.
 
"We as a staff are very excited about what this class will add to our lineup next season," said Smith. "Their individual skill-sets, combined with the success they have all amounted at the high school level, will prove to have an immediate impact on our program. We cannot wait to see how well their playing styles mesh with our returning players, and we are looking forward to their arrival this coming fall."

#23  KC Carter – 5-8 – Guard
Brooklyn, N.Y. (Holderness School (N.H.))

Prior to Cornell
• Four-year letter winner at Holderness School.
• Scored 2,000+ career points.
• Two-time NEPSAC Class D Player of the Year (2018, 2019).
• Named a NEPSAC All-Star three times (2017, 2018, 2019).
• 2019 McDonald's All-American Nominee.
• Two-time All-NEPSAC first-team selection (2018, 2019).
• Selected first-team All-USA New Hampshire in 2018.
• Named the NEPSAC Finals MVP twice (2018, 2019).
• Played for the New York Guachos.
 
Coach Smith on Carter: KC is a tremendous scorer. Having accumulated over 2,000 points in her high school career, she knows how to create scoring opportunities for herself and that will be a welcome addition to our perimeter core. She can finish at the rim and is a consistent 3-point threat. We are excited to bring KC's talents to Newman Arena!
 
#21  Anna Hovis – 5-11 – Forward
Falls Church, Va. (Bishop O'Connell HS)

Prior to Cornell
• Four-year letter winner at Bishop O'Connell High School.
• Served as team captain as a senior.
• Named second-team All-Arlington as senior.
• Selected honorable mention All-Conference (WCAC) as junior after a third-team selection as a sophomore.
• Helped Bishop O'Connell to a Virginia state runner-up finish as a freshman before three consecutive quarterfinal finishes.
• Earned the team's Defensive Player of the Year award as sophomore and the team's Outstanding Player of the Year as a junior.
• Played for the Elevate Elite Gauntlet National Team.
• Finished in the top eight of the 2018 Adidas Nationals, Gold Bracket.
• Took fifth place at the 2016 Fairfax Stars EYBL, Division I, Nike Nationals.
 
Coach Smith on Hovis: Anna is a versatile small forward with an uncanny ability to run and rebound. Her timing in the paint is very solid and she is able to make plays both offensively and defensively with her athletic ability. We look forward to Anna's presence in our front court this coming season!
 
#2  Ania McNicholas – 5-7 – Guard
San Jose, Calif. (Archbishop Mitty HS)

Prior to Cornell
• Four-year letter winner at Archbishop Mitty High School.
• Served as team captain as a senior.
• Earned All-WCAL First Team All-League honors as a senior.
• Named All-WCAL Second-Team All-League, All-Bay Area honorable mention, and All-CCS honorable mention as a junior.
• Helped Archbishop Mitty win the 2018 National Championship.
• Three-time CCS Open Division Champions (2017, 2018, 2019).
• Four-time WCAL Champions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
• Twice named the Mercury News CCS Athlete of the Week (March 2018; February 2019).
• Named the team's Most Inspirational Player as the individual that shows work ethic and motivates other teammates with energy and intensity (2018).
• 2017 California Runner-Up State Open Division Championship.
• Surf & Slam Top Division Champions (2018).
• 2018West Coast Jamboree Champions - Platinum Division.
• Lettered three times in lacrosse and once in volleyball at Archbishop Mitty.
• Earned all-league honors in lacrosse in 2017 and 2019.
 
Coach Smith on McNicholas: Ania is a very heady and consistent combo guard. Her knowledge of the game comes through in her playing style, and we feel as though she will thrive in our system here at Cornell! Ania is a well-balanced player that affects the game on both sides of the ball and we are excited to have her in our program!
 
#22  Shannon Mulroy – 5-8 – Point Guard
Mount Laurel, N.J. (Lenape HS)

Prior to Cornell
• Four-year letter winner at Lenape High School.
• Served as team captain during her senior season.
• 2019 Olympic Conference Player of the Year.
• 2019 Burlington County Times Player of the Year.
• 2019 Sun Newspaper Player of the Year.
• 2019 First-Team All-South Jersey.
• 2019 All State Group 4 second-team.
• 2019 State All-Star Team selection.
• Led Lenape HS to a pair of SJ Group 4 Championships (2016, 2019).
• Won the 2016 NJ Group 4 State Championship.
• Won the 2016 USJN DC Championship with the Philadelphia Belles.
• Lettered four times in soccer at Lenape.
  
Coach Smith on Mulroy: Shannon is a competitor. Her determination and drive will make her an immediate asset to our program. Shannon's ability to create for others and her knack for pushing the tempo will mesh well with our current style of play. We are thrilled to add Shannon to our backcourt this season!
