ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell head football coach
David Archer '05 and his staff are excited to announce the newest members of the Big Red Football family. The Class of 2023, featuring 25 incoming freshmen, joins a Cornell football program continuing to build momentum.
Hailing from 15 states, the class of 2023 will attempt to help secure the Big Red's first Ivy title on the gridiron since 1990. A class-high three recruits played high school football in Georgia, New York and Missouri and two join the Big Red from the states of Florida, Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Eight other states send one player each to Ithaca. In all, 12 of the players will join the offense, 12 will aid the defense and one will concentrate on special teams.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Big Red brings in five defensive back/safeties, four linebackers and three defensive linemen. Cornell went for plenty of skill players on the offense, bringing in three wide receivers, one running back, two tight ends and two quarterbacks. The offensive line will also be bolstered with the addition of four student-athletes who average 6-5 and 270 pounds. Cornell also added a place-kicker/punter for next season.
The Big Red opens the 2019 season at Marist on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
