9/11/2019 2:30:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Dayna Smith, The Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball, has announced the team's schedule for the 2019-20 campaign. The 27-game slate includes 14 home contests at Newman Arena.

Eight games against 2019 postseason qualifying teams and match ups against a pair of Big XII schools headline the Big Red's schedule. In addition, Cornell will take on seven opponents that posted at least 15 wins a season ago.

The Big Red will tip off the 2019-20 campaign with a two-game road swing, traveling to Albany on Friday, Nov. 8 before heading to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on 2019 WNIT semi-finalist Texas Christian on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Cornell will then head home for three-consecutive games, hosting Colgate in its home opener on Thursday, Nov. 14 before welcoming NJIT on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Niagara on Thursday, Nov. 21.

The Big Red will return to the road on Nov. 23, traveling to Delaware State before closing out the month at the UMASS - Lowell on Nov. 27.

The month of December opens with three straight home contests, including match ups against Lafayette (Dec. 1), Binghamton, (Dec. 5), and Duquesne (Dec. 10). Road games against St. Bonaventure (Dec. 29) and Big XII foe and 2019 WNIT qualifier West Virginia (Dec. 31) round out the calendar year.

The Big Red's non-conference slate will conclude with a home contest against East Tennessee State on Jan. 4.

The conference season will be the Big Red's biggest test, with 8 of its 14 contests coming against teams that won at least 15 games a year ago. Six games are against post-season qualifying teams, including Princeton, who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament after winning the Ivy League tournament championship. Harvard and Penn will also present challenges, having qualified for the WNIT last season and each picking up first round wins.

The Big Red turned a lot of heads last year, finishing the regular season tied for fourth after being picked eighth in the Ivy League Preseason Media Poll. Even more impressive, the squad qualified for the Ivy League tournament for the first time in its three year history, securing the fourth and final seed. The team, which returns 11 letter winners, posted a 12-14 overall record and 6-8 Ivy League mark last season.
