Big Red Captains

  • The Big Red men's track and field captains have been announced. Seniors Malick Diomande, Shane Goosby, Clayton Jeffrey, Will Lutkewitte and James Norris will serve as the 2019-20 captains. Each of them has their specialties but will serve as a team.
  • A high-jumper, and the occasional 400m runner, Malick Diomande's 25 top ten finishes include all but two of his competitions. His freshman year Indoor Heps competitions resulted in an 11th-place finish and as a competitor in the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, he finished 43rd.
  • A runner on the team, Shane Goosby's main races are the 500 and the 800 but he can be seen running distances as low as 300.
  • Good at just about everything, Clayton Jeffrey is an all-around track athlete. A decathlete/heptathlete, Jeffrey holds personal records in just about every event. A combination of all his events, Jeffrey holds 48 top-ten finishes.
  • A discus and shot put thrower, Will Lutkewitte's 27 top ten finishes include four from Ivy Heptagonals (outdoor 2018, indoor 2019 and outdoor 2019).
  • 2018 Second Team All-Ivy League selection, James Norris' personal records in the 100 (10.87) and the 200 (22.26) remain in the top two of the team while his 60m dash personal record (6.90) is the third-best PR on the team. Throughout his Cornell career, Norris has earned 38 top ten finishes in the 60, the 100 and the 200.

2018-19 Postseason Winners

  • During the outdoor postseason, the men finished first at Ivy Heps in the 4x100m relay. With a first-place finish, current sophomore Kuune Mini and graduated seniors Austin Lyons '19, Alex Beck '19 and Zach Menchaca '19 each earned a spot on First Team All-Ivy.

About Head Coach Adrian Durant

  • After being an assistant (sprints) coach for the Big Red for three years, Adrian Durant was named the George E. Heekin '29 Coach of Men's Track and Field in July 2015.
  • In his first year as head coach the men's track and field team came in second place at the 2016 Indoor Heps Championships before the outdoor team clinched the 2016 Heps Championships title with a record point score of 211.00 points, becoming the only team in conference history to score over 200 points in a single championship.
  • His second year as head coach led to two second-place finishes at Heps from the indoor and outdoor teams in 2017.
  • In his four years as head coach, Durant has developed over 50 Ivy League champions, seven Ivy League MVPs and 11 All-Americans. He has coached athletes to 24 Cornell school records and six Ivy League records.
  • During the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, Durant coached the #1 team in the Northeast Region.
  • He has twice been named the Northeast Regional Outdoor Men's Coach of the Year, in 2016 and 2017, and has once been named the Ivy League Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year, in 2016.
