ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore forward
Michael Regush scored a six-on-four goal with 1 minute, 46 seconds left in the third period to ignite an electric crowd and help the Cornell men's hockey team muster a 1-1 tie with rival Harvard at Lynah Rink.
With plenty of tough sledding through the neutral zone for both teams, scoring chances were at a minimum. Not surprisingly, the teams were locked in a scoreless deadlock until late in the third period. Harvard broke the ice with Jack Drury's goal with 4:05 to play in regulation, but Cornell got a glimmer of hope when the visitors were whistled for a penalty with 1:56 to play.
That sent the faceoff down into the Harvard zone, where junior forward
Morgan Barron won a faceoff to give Cornell possession. After one scoring chance was broken up, the puck worked its way back to the point. Freshman defenseman
Sam Malinski set up senior defenseman
Yanni Kaldis at the center point. Instead of just wristing a shot toward the clogged goal mouth, Kaldis picked out Regush cutting to the net from the right side. Regush redirected the pass into the net to tie the game.
Junior goaltender
Matthew Galajda made 29 saves for top-ranked Cornell (14-1-4, 9-1-2 ECAC Hockey), which extended its unbeaten streak to eight games (4-0-4). Cameron Gornet made 16 saves for 16th-ranked Harvard (9-6-4, 7-4-3 ECAC Hockey, 4-1-2 Ivy League).
