ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior goaltender
Matthew Galajda has been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Decade Team, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Galajda was placed as one of the two goaltenders on the second team for the league's most outstanding performers from 2010 to 2019. While Galajda's current season is not part of that equation, a memorable 2017-18 season is. As a freshman, he led the nation with a 1.51 goals against average, backstopping the Big Red to a #1 seed in NCAA regionals with a 21-5-2 record and .939 save percentage that ranked third in the country. His nine shutouts that season also led the nation, and it fell just one shy of tying Cornell's single-season record of 10.
With that explosion onto the college hockey scene, Galajda was named a first-team All-American and became the first freshman goaltender to ever be selected as one of the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which is given annually to the best player in all of college hockey. He was also named the Ivy League Player of the Year, Ivy League Rookie of the Year, ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year and was a first-team selection to both the All-ECAC Hockey and All-Ivy League teams.
As it stands entering Cornell's game this weekend, Galajda third in program history with a career goals against average of 1.67. His 18 career shutouts are just one off the Big Red's record. Galajda is currently riding a consecutive shutout steak of 138 minutes, 20 seconds after posting back-to-back clean sheets last weekend in road victories over Yale and Brown.
