ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's hockey junior forward
Morgan Barron has been named ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, the league announced Friday.
Barron led Cornell in scoring for a second straight season, racking up 32 points on 14 goals and 18 assists in just 29 games. His five power-play goals ranked second on the team in 2019-20. Barron became the first Cornell men's hockey player with at least 30 points in each of his first three seasons with the Big Red since
Riley Nash (2007-10).
Barron was named to the All-Ivy League and All-ECAC Hockey first teams in recent weeks, becoming the first Cornell forward to garner the high honor in ECAC Hockey twice since Joe Nieuwendyk (1986 and 1987). He was also named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award earlier this week.
This marks the seventh time that Cornell has laid claim to ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, and the first time since David McKee in 2005. Other finalists for the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year were Harvard forward Nick Abruzzese and Clarkson goaltender Frank Marotte.
