Fencing to Host NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday

ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell University is proud to host the 2020 NCAA Fencing Northeast Regional this weekend on Sunday, March 8, with competition set to kick-off at 10 a.m. in Barton Hall. Cornell will have 12 competitors over the three weapons on Sunday as the program welcomes 17 teams to East Hill.

START TIME
Competition will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. National Anthem will play at 9:45 a.m. Call to strips will be made at 9:50 a.m. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m.

9:30 a.m. - Registration Opens
10 a.m. - Fencing Begins
10 a.m. - Women's Epee, Men's Foil
11 a.m. - Women's Foil, Men's Epee
Noon - Men's Sabre
12:30 p.m. - Women's Sabre

ADMISSION
Admission will be free to all spectators.

FORMAT
All quarterfinals will have 35 fencers (unless there are less than 35 entries), all semifinals will have 21 fencers, and all finals will have 12 fencers, as follows:

Quarterfinals = 5 pools of 7: 21 advance
Semifinals = 3 pools of 7: 12 advance
Finals = 1 pool of 12

Whenever possible, pools of 7 will be fenced on two strips. The final pool will be fenced on two or more strips. In order to get to the quarterfinals of 35, there will be a "Play in Competition."
 
2020 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2020 NCAA Fencing Championships will take place March 19-22 at the TCF Center in downtown Detroit, Mich. The National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships include individual events in each of the six weapons (women's sabre, women's foil, women's épée, men's sabre, men's foil and men's épée). Participants will be selected by the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee and announced on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. each day. PARKING
Parking will be available in the Hoy Garage on a first come first serve basis. Athletes can be dropped off in front of Barton Hall on Garden Avenue. If you choose to park on the street, please follow all signs. Local ordinances will apply. Buses are asked to park in the TRB Lot located on Campus Road.

MEDIA INFORMATION

MERCHANDISE
NCAA Merchandise will be for sale during the competition from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

CONCESSIONS
Concessions will be available. Food is not permitted on the competition floor, but allowed in the designated team and spectator areas.
 
PRACTICE DAY
Barton Hall will open at 4:30 PM on Saturday, March 7th for open practice. The facility will reopen at 8:00 AM on Sunday, March 8th.
