Megan Eno each reached the pool of 12 at the NCAA Fencing Northeast Regionals in Barton Hall on Sunday, March 8. Both all but assured themselves spots at the 2020 NCAA Championships, though no qualifiers are official until the NCAA's announcement on Wednesday, March 11.
The 2020 NCAA Championships will take place at the TCF Center in Detroit, Mich. on March 19-22. A total of 24 fencers will compete in each weapon, with 22 fencers receiving allocations through regional competition and two fencers earning at-large bids.
Nishimura placed fifth in foil to all but punch her ticket to Detroit, Mich., while Eno took 11th overall in épée. Épée was allocated nine NCAA qualifiers, but with a maximum of two qualifiers per team, Eno jumped two spots ahead of a pair of Columbia fencers. Nishimura finished the day with a 17-6 record, alongside a +42 indicator on 99 total touches scored and 57 touches received. Eno went 11-12 overall, with an even (+0) indicator featuring 95 touches scored and 95 touches received.
Several members of the Big Red were close to the final round of 12, with
Ying Cao and
Marissa Viqueira finishing 13th and 14th respectively in foil competition. In sabre,
Gillian Harrill was 15th, while
Amit Handari-Levy was 16th and
Esther Bentolila was 18th. Cao was the first fencer left out of the foil pool of 12, as two fencers with indicators of +0 finished above her (-3) tied for 11th.
