ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman
Veer Chotrani recently received his first All-America honor, when the College Squash Association formally announced his placement on the first team after a very successful debut season with the men's squash team.
Chotrani competed exclusively from the #1 position in the Big Red's lineup since his arrival in the fall, posting an 11-7 record despite playing much of the best competition in the nation. Three of those victories came in Ivy League play, and then three more came in Cornell's run to the Hoehn Cup title match against Columbia. As such, Chotrani became just the second Cornellian to be selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year since the accolade was first doled out in 1984 (
Nick Sachvie '14 was the other). He was also the Big Red's first All-Ivy selection since
Aditya Jagtap '15 after his senior season.
It all added up a berth in the Pool Cup, which is the top flight of the CSA National Collegiate Individual Championships. Though he was defeated in the first round of the main draw, Chotrani made an important run through the consolation bracket. By defeating Rochester's Matthew Toth and Columbia's James Wyatt to advance to the consolation final, Chotrani guaranteed his spot on the All-America first team, while consolation quarterfinal and semifinal losers were placed on the second team.
Chotrani becomes the Big Red's first All-American since 2015, when his countryman
Aditya Jagtap '15 also earned first-team honors.
