Sailing Takes Seventh At Stu Nelson, Fails To Qualify For ACC Coed Finals

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team took 16th at the ACC Coed Semifinals this past weekend to go along with another top 10 team finish with a seventh at the Stu Nelson Women's.

Against one of the top fields in the country, the coed team was 16th - ahead of both Michigan and South Florida. Seth Rizika skippered A division with Emily O'Connell (1-10), Rocco Cappetta (11-12) and Jennifer Permenter (13-18) to three top 10 placements, including a best finish of fourth. In B division, J.J. Smith sailed with Cappetta (1-10) and O'Donnell (11-18) with Peter Jordan was a reserve. The group took seven top 10 finishes and crossed the line in first in the 15th race of the two-day event. The top nine squads qualified for the ACC finals, including No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Navy.

In addition, the Big Red took seventh at Yale's Stu Nelson Women's Regatta, finishing 10 points out of sixth. The three division event saw B division featuring Meredith Moran and Sophia Fogarty and A division's Brooke Shachoy and Amelia Neumann each had top five efforts. Moran and Fogarty had seven top five races, including a pair of top three finishes in their final two races of the weekend. Shachoy and Neumann had three top two efforts with a win and five total top five finishes. C division, with Lucia Ruzevic and Jana Laurendau, placed ninth with a high showing of fourth in their first race of the weekend.
