ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's polo team eyes a 3-0 start to the season when it hosts the Central New York Polo Club on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Oxley Equestrian Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
The Big Red has emerged victorious in each of its last two contests, defeating Skidmore, 20-11, in the 2021-22 opener on Oct. 2 and Old Chatham, 16-8, on Oct. 9. Sophomore Taylor Palacios has gotten off to a great start in his first season of college competition, scoring five goals in his first collegiate chukker against the Thoroughbreds and following that up with a game-high six goals, including a two-pointer, against Old Chatham.
Patricio Fraga-Errecart and Pablo Herrera also played big roles in Cornell's most recent win over Old Chatham, with Fraga-Errecart finishing the contest with four goals and Herrera notching three, one of which was a two-point score.
The Big Red are 3-2 in its last five meetings with the Central New York Polo Club. The two teams split its two games during the 2017-18 season, with Cornell falling, 16-14 on Nov. 3, 2017 but emerging victorious, 21-9, on March 17, 2018. It was the first win of what would be three-straight wins in the series for the Big Red, as Cornell knocked off the Central New York Polo Club twice in the 2018-19 season by scores of 29-4 and 20-5. The Central New York Polo Club clinched a convincing win the last time the two teams played, however, beating Cornell, 21-11, on Dec. 7, 2019.
The Cornell men's polo team will hit the road for the first time this season when it competes in the University of Virginia Invitational on Oct. 20-24 in Charlottesville, Va.
