ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper
Miranda Iannone made a career-high seven saves, but Ivy League-leading Brown scored twice early in the second half to pull away from the Cornell women's soccer team for a 3-0 victory on Saturday at Berman Field.
Ava Seelenfreund got Brown (10-3, 5-0 Ivy League) on the board in the 17th minute. A thrown-in from the left side was headed away by the Cornell (3-9-2, 1-4) defense, but Maesyn G'Bye gathered and sent a cross about 8 yards out from the far post that found Seelenfruend for her seventh goal of the season.
Cornell juniors
Ashley Durik and
Kendall Patten took the shots that required saves from Brown goalkeeper Kayla Thompson on both sides of halftime, but the Bears would pull away soon thereafter.
Brittany Raphino struck with a 25-yard bullet from straight away in the 49th minute, then she claimed the assist on G'Bye's goal in the 53rd. Raphino's cross from deep on the right side took a slight deflection from one defender to elude a second, leaving G'Bye free to convert.
The game followed a pre-game Senior Day ceremony to commemorate the final collegiate home game in the careers of fifth years
Maddie Hoitink and
Naomi Jaffe, and seniors
Victoria Bubrick,
Jadyn Matthews,
Mofoluke Obiri,
