ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's sailing team won its third consecutive fall conference title as part of a big weekend for the Big Red. In addition, the coed team, led by senior co-captain
Brooke Shachoy, earned a top 10 finish at the coed War Memorial.
The Big Red took home the MAISA Fall Women's regatta with 63 points, holding off Penn (73) to bring home the hardware with 14 schools competing on Seneca Lake. Cornell went into the lead after two rotations and never surrendered the lead, winning four of the first six races and holding on to a lead throughout.
Bridget Green skippered A division with
Gabbi DelBello (races 1-9) and
Jana Laurendeau (race 10) as crew to a strong second behind Navy. Cornell won four times and had six top two placements. B division was also a consistent second with
Lillian Myers as skipper and
Lilly Bjerke (races 1-9) and DelBello (race 10). B division won three races and posted seven top 10 efforts on the weekend.
At the War Memorial, Shachoy led A division with
Amelia Neumann to seven top 10 efforts on the weekend, including a second-place finish in the weekend's third race to highlight the effort. B division saw skipper
J.J. Smith and crew
Emily O'Connell (races 1-10) and Neumann (races 11-12) finish strong, placing in the top eight in eight different races with a high of third.
Three Big Red sailors will take part in this coming weekend's Singlehanded National Championships, with junior
Lillian Myers and sophomores
Lucija Ruzevic and
Lauren Ehnot ready to hit the water for the final time this semester.
