ITHACA, N.Y. – After falling to Virginia, 30-11, in the championship game of the Bill Field Invitational on Sunday afternoon, the Cornell men's polo team finished second in its annual fall tournament in Ithaca, N.Y.
With the loss, the Big Red's record still sits at an impressive 8-2 on the season, with both of Cornell's losses this year coming to Virginia. The Cavaliers have been the only team to give the Big Red problems this season, having also handed Cornell a 21-1 defeat on Oct. 22 at the Virginia Polo Fall Tournament in Charlottesville, Va.
Despite falling to the Cavaliers, Cornell's Pablo Herrera had himself a day, scoring nine of the Big Red's 11 points for the contest. Cornell's leader in two-point goals this season with five, Herrera notched a pair of two-pointers today, matching his season-high goal total with seven. Taylor Palacios and Patricio Fraga-Errecart each added a goal for Cornell.
It was Virginia that poured it on offensively, however, jumping out to an 11-2 lead after the first chukker which it would never look back from. The Cavaliers' Brennan Wells scored a game-high 20 points on 19 goals in the contest.
