ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell men's lacrosse senior attackman Jeff Teat was the first to come off the draft board on Monday night, being chosen as the No. 1 overall pick by the Atlas LC in the 2021 Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) College Draft.
Being selected as the top pick is becoming a familiar scenario for Teat, who was also chosen at the No. 1 spot in the 2020 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft by the New York Riptide in September. He is the first Big Red men's lacrosse player to be the top selection in the PLL College and NLL Entry drafts, as well as the first to go No. 1 overall in multiple professional drafts. To date, only two other athletes in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), NLL, and PLL history have been selected as the top pick in multiple professional drafts – Stony Brook's Kevin Crowley '11 and UAlbany's Lyle Thompson '15. Both went No. 1 overall in their respective MLL and NLL drafts.
Teat will graduate from Cornell among the best to ever don the Cornell uniform. He is a two-time Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee, three-time USILA All-American, and four-time Inside Lacrosse Media All-American. Even despite not playing a game this spring, Teat's place among the best players in collegiate lacrosse was never in doubt, earning a spot on the 2021 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. He has also received All-Ivy accolades on three occasions, including unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections in 2018 and 2019.
Teat remains only one of two players in Big Red history (Mike French '76) to register three 30 goal, 30 assist seasons in a career and is just one of four to amass 70 points in three-consecutive campaigns from 2017-19. During the 2020 season, he moved into third all-time in career points (268) at Cornell, also sitting third in the Big Red record books in career assists (152) and ninth in career goals (116). Teat is just the eighth player in Ivy League history to score 250 career points.
Teat's name was also called in the 2020 PLL College Draft, as he was chosen 12th overall by the Chaos LC before deciding to return to Cornell in 2021.
